Like to Adopt-a-Book?
The Leighton Library has approximately 4,500 books, the oldest dating from 1504. Not surprisingly, a number of these are in need of refurbishment of various degrees. A few years ago we began the adopt-a-book scheme which encourages donors to contribute to the cost, in full or in part, of having a book restored. The work involved has ranged from individual books being completely rebound in board and/or leather to others being cleaned to bring out the intricacies of the existing binding. We have refurbished 9 books using this funding and the individual volumes have benefited immensely. Donors are encouraged to Gift Aid their donations and these can be made to the Honorary Clerk/Treasurer to the Trustees of the Leighton Library or to the library during opening hours, in each case marked Adopt-a-Book.
