The Leighton Library has a 1596 edition of "De natura noui orbis" about the New World, by Spanish Jesuit missionary and naturalist in Latin America José de Acosta who died #OnThisDay 15 February 1600. His deductions related to the atmosphere, when crossing over the Andes, is a variety of altitude sickness now referred to as Acosta's disease
