#OnThisDay 12 June 1647 leading classical scholar & outstanding educator of his time Thomas Farnaby died. His works chiefly consisted of annotated editions of Latin authors, and textbooks on rhetoric and Latin grammar, which enjoyed extraordinary popularity. The Leighton Library has a 1618 edition of his "M. Annaei Lucani Pharsalia, sive De bello civili Cæsaris et Pompeji lib X" an epic poem (by Roman poet Marcus Annaeus Lucanus, regarded as one of the outstanding figures of Imperial Latin period, whose youth and speed of composition set him apart from other poets) which told the story of the civil war between Julius Caesar and Pompey.
