The Leighton Library has a 1619 edition of "Exercitia spiritualia" by the Spanish theologian who co-founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) Ignatius of Loyola who died #OnThisDay 1556.

This book comprises spiritual exercises - meditations, prayers and mental exercises in four themes designed to be carried out by someone in retreat or solitude over a period of a month.

It would have served as a guide for spiritual directors leading retreats, helping participants undergo a month-long journey of introspection, discernment, and commitment to Christ.
