The Leighton Library has a 1678 edition of "De la recherche de la verite" (The search for the truth) by French priest and rationalist philosopher Nicolas Malebranche who was born #OnThisDay 6 August 1638.

This deals with the Nature of the Spirit of Man, and what he must do to avoid the error in the Sciences! It argued that humans perceive truths through divine illumination.

The book challenged the reliability of the senses and placed emphasis on reason and introspection as paths to truth.

The book influenced Enlightenment thinkers and sparked debates with contemporaries.
