The Leighton Library has a 1696 first edition of the tract "Decreti oxoniensis vindicatio" by English preacher and theologian Robert South who died #OnThisDay 8 July 1716.

This tract was in answer to William Sherlock's "Modest examination of the authority and reasons of the late decree".

Robert South was praised for his wit, and one of his well-known witty poems of the time "Musica incantans" was about the power of music.
