Volunteer Opportunity: Fundraising Volunteer
Leighton Library
Are you passionate about heritage, culture and community? Do you have experience — or a strong interest — in fundraising strategy and development? The Leighton Library is seeking a committed Volunteer Fundraising Lead to help secure the long-term future of Scotland’s oldest purpose-built library.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver a comprehensive fundraising strategy that will sustain and develop the Library for generations to come.
Working closely with the Library’s Executive Group (which manages the Library), you will help:
· Develop and implement a clear fundraising strategy
· Identify and apply to trusts and foundations
· Explore corporate sponsorship opportunities
· Help design and support fundraising events
· Develop a legacy giving programme
· Identify other income streams, including individual giving and project grants
This role goes beyond covering day-to-day running costs. Fundraising is essential to:
· Secure the long-term future operation of the Library
· Support conservation and preservation work
· Enable development projects and public engagement initiatives
What We’re Looking For
· Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or income generation (desirable but not essential)
· Strategic thinking and initiative
· Strong written communication skills
· An interest in heritage, education, or community engagement
· Ability to work collaboratively with trustees and volunteers
What You’ll Gain
· The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a nationally significant historic institution
· Experience shaping strategic fundraising at board level
· Collaboration with a supportive and committed Executive Group
· The satisfaction of helping secure the Library’s future
Time Commitment
Flexible and negotiable. Much of the work can be undertaken remotely, with occasional meetings as required.
If you are interested in helping secure the future of this remarkable historic library, we would love to hear from you.
Expressions of interest and enquiries welcome. Please contact Alastair MacDonald or Chris Onslow
