The Leighton Library has a 1607 first edition of "Euclidis Elementorum libri XV" by German mathematician and probably the most respected astronomer in Europe at the time, Christopher Clavius who was born #OnThisDay 25 March 1538. His textbooks were used for astronomical education for over fifty years. He was a member of the Vatican commission that accepted proposed calendar known as the Gregorian calendar. A crater on the moon was named after him
