The Leighton Library has a 1644 edition of "Observations upon religio medici" by English courtier, diplomat, natural philosopher & astrologer Sir Kenelm Digby who was born #OnThisDay 11 July 1603.

He had an interest in alchemy, came up with an early theory of photosynthesis, and was considered the father of the modern wine bottle!

Sir Kenelm Digby’s “Observations upon Religio Medici” is a spirited commentary on Sir Thomas Browne’s “Religio Medici”, a work that blends personal faith, philosophical inquiry, and scientific curiosity. Digby read Browne’s text while under house arrest and composed his observations within 24 hours. Digby’s Observations engage Browne’s ideas in a kind of intellectual fencing match, a dialogue between two 17th-century minds - one mystical and introspective, the other rational and combative.
< Leighton Library has badly wormed 1569 edition of "Sermons de M. Iean Caluin sur le liure de Iob" by John Calvin
