#OnThisDay 31 May 1669 famed English diarist Samuel Pepys recorded his final diary entry. Writer, gardener and diarist John Evelyn was a contemporary of Pepys, but Evelyn’s diaries, or memoirs, were not published until later. The Leighton Library has a 1776 edition of his "Sylva: a discourse of forest-trees together with a historical account of the sacredness and use of standing groves."
