The Leighton Library has a 1774 edition of "State-papers and letters, addressed to William Carstares, confidential secretary to King William during the whole of his reign" by William Carstares who was born #OnThisDay 11 February 1649. He was confidential secretary to William of Orange (later King William and Queen Anne), Royal Chaplain in Scotland, Principal of The University of Edinburgh, and four times Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland
