Leighton Library has a 1597 edition of the biography (by Orazio Orsellino) of Spanish missionary and saint Francis Xavier, co-founder of the Society of Jesus, who was born #OnThisDay 7 April 1506. Many churches all over the world, often founded by Jesuits, have been named in honour of Xavier. He was noteworthy for his missionary work - he reputedly converted more people than anyone else had done since Paul the Apostle
