The Leighton Library has a 1554 edition of the atlas "Cosmographiae uniuersalis" which includes this 16th century view of Europe - a reversal of viewpoint from direction customary today, by German cartographer and cosmographer Sebastian Münster who died #OnThisDay 26 May 1552. It was one of the most successful and popular books of the 16th century. Among the notable maps within Cosmographia is the map "Tabula novarum insularum", which is credited as the first map to show the American continents as geographically discrete
