The Leighton Library has a 1630 edition of "De republica Anglorum" by English scholar, parliamentarian and diplomat Sir Thomas Smith who died #OnThisDay 12 August 1577. This was written between 1562 and 1565, where he described England as a mixed government and a commonwealth, and stated that all commonwealths are of mixed character
