The Leighton Library has a 1640 first edition of "An humble remonstrance to the high court of parliament" by English bishop, satirist, moralist and high-profile controversialist of the early 1640s, Joseph Hall, born #OnThisDay 1 July 1574. This was part of a larger debate which helped precipitate the English Civil War. Following this publication Joseph Hall was then attacked in print by a group of puritans.
