#OnThisDay 14 June 1966 the Vatican announced the abolition of the "Index Librorum Prohibitorum" ("index of prohibited books"), which had been originally instituted in 1557. This listed publications deemed heretical, anti-clerical or lascivious, and therefore banned by the Catholic Church. Dunblane's historic Leighton Library has a 1667 edition of "Index Librorum Prohibitorum"
