The Leighton Library has a 1762 first edition of the novel by highly influential political and educational philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau (born #OnThisDay 28 June 1712) "Émile, or On Education" (a treatise on the education of the whole person for citizenship, which was banned in Paris and Geneva & publicly burned when published, but during French Revolution served as the inspiration for what became a new national system of education), 1764 edition of his novel Julie, or the New Heloise, 1764 edition of "Esprit" and 1764 editions of works of Rousseau.
