#OnThisDay 27 August 1955 the first edition of the Guinness Book of Records was published in Britain. The record for the most expensive book was $14,165,000 paid for the Bay Psalm Book, sold at Sotheby's in New York. The book dates back to 1640, was the first book ever printed in British North America, and one of only 11 copies surviving

Dunblane's historic Leighton Library is Scotland's oldest purpose-built independent library. The smallest book in the library is the 1564 edition of "De Imitatione Christi" (The Imitation of Christ) regarded to be by German priest & mystic Thomas à Kempis. This book is the best known Christian book on devotion which, apart from the Bible, has been translated into more languages than any other book. The oldest book in the library is a Book of Psalms dating back to 1504
