The Leighton Library has a 1666 edition of "Memoires de Messire Pierre de Bourdeille, seigneur de Brantome. Contenans les vies des hommes illustres & grands capitaines francois de son temps" by French historian, soldier, and biographer Pierre de Bourdeille, seigneur de Brantôme, who died #OnThisDay 15 July 1614. This book is his memoirs of illustrious men and women he had known, since he came into contact with many of the great leaders of the time, including accompanying Mary, Queen of Scots (then the widow of Francis II of France). His life was the subject of the 1990 historical drama film "Dames galantes."
