#OnThisDay 17 April 1635 theologian and scholar Edward Stillingfleet was born. He was known as a controversialist, considered an outstanding preacher (known as "the beauty of holiness" for his good looks in the pulpit!), and was called "the ablest man of his time." Dunblane's historic Leighton Library has several of his books, the earliest of which is 1662 edition of his first book "Irenicum. A weapon-salve for the church's wounds"
