Dunblane's historic Leighton Library has a first edition of the highly influential "An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations" (which was published #OnThisDay 9 March 1776) by renowned Scottish economist, philosopher and key figure in the Scottish Enlightenment, Adam Smith. This book was the world's first collected descriptions of what builds nations' wealth which is today a fundamental work in classical economics. This work reflects upon the economics at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and looks at division of labour, productivity, and free markets. It is the second most cited book in economics published before 1950
